Our History

1967

Founded

Bridgeway is a subsidiary of Comprehend, Inc., which was established in 1967

1968

Services Began

Bridgeway began providing services in 1968 within the five counties of the Buffalo Trace Area Development District (Mason, Fleming, Lewis, Bracken and Robertson).

1970

All Basic Services In Place

By 1970, all of our basic services were being provided, including serving individuals with developmental disabilities.

1971

Adult Day Training

In 1971, we started four daycare centers for developmentally disabled children, and a year later began what is now called our Adult Day Training program.

Today

Evolution

Over time, the programming within Comprehend providing these fundamental services for individuals with developmental disabilities became known as Bridgeway. This name was chosen to represent how the program worked to reduce barriers and promote independence among the population that it serves.
